SUPERCOLOSSUS - Milky Way

Milkyway

From Earth's vantage point, our homegalaxy, The Milk Way, overpowers everything else in the nightsky in the southern hemisphere at winter time. It can be seen from end to end because the solar system is located at 2/3 of the way out of the center into the last spiral arm, sideways.

The Galaxy, a barred spiral, is guesstimated to have approximatelly 100 billion stars mingled in stellar gas that permeates the galaxy and that is the origin of the name commonly used in all cultures.

Canon EOS 30D, 14mm lens. Mosaic of 6 exposures of 263 seconds at ISO 1600. Processing done in Digital Photo Professional and Adobe Photoshop CS.
