
Former asteroid Ceres is first imaged sucessfully during the February 2009 opposition. It was upgraded to dwarf planethood in the same IAU General Assembly that downgraded Pluto to the same category.
Only 950Km in diameter, it accounts for about half the mass of the entire asteroid belt.
