
Triple star system Alpha Crucis A, B and C, better known as Acrux, is the most luminous "star" of the southern cross constellation. At 321 light years distance, seemingly twin stars Alpha Crucis A and B shine intensely enough to be ranked as the twelfth brightest "star" in the night sky.
As the main "star" of the southern cross constellation it is present in the flags of New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Brazil.
